J.J. Ramirez -

By Lisa Bocanegra

J.J. Ramirez is the founder and director of Save Our Streets Ministries which is a non profit organization dedicated to bringing the word of God to the streets of Bryan-College Station and beyond. SOS Ministries began as a result of a tent revival in November 1993. A year prior to its start, J.J. had ministered I the streets with an ambition of bringing the awareness of Christ to gangs, drug dealers, and drug addicts. Earlier in his life, he was a drug dealer and addict, so he now has the knowledge of how and why young men and women have made the choices to take the wrong path in becoming part of the gang scene and drug culture. Some call his life before he met Jesus Satan's Joy, but now God is using his very life as a powerful testimony of His mercy and love. Even though J.J. Ramirez and SOS Ministries have not sought recognition through the years, the Lord has opened many doors of opportunity in order to get the message of hope, love and salvation to the lives of those who feel are beyond redemption. Because of his ministry's work the number of gang related shootings in our area has fallen from 50 in 1993 to about 6 at the close of 1995. His volunteer staff works day and night to help I aiding anyone needing help away from the wrong decisions they have made. For more information about this cause feel free to contact the SOS office at 979-775-5357 and let J.J. know if you would like to be added to the newsletter mailing

Save Our Streets Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the love of Jesus Christ to the streets of Bryan-College Station and beyond. It began as a tent revival in 1993 and was founded by J.J. Ramirez. Before J.J. had met Christ, he was a drug addict and dealer, which has given him the understanding of how and why may of today's young men and women have chosen the wrong paths. The SOS board of directors is comprised of pastors and businessmen from different denominations and churches. The ministry hopes to reach young people coming out of gangs, those dealing with drugs, and those with bad family situations. On almost any night of the week the ministry is offering many types of services. There is a bible study held Thursdays and attracts 100-150 young men, women, and children each week. A praise and worship service is held Fridays for teenagers to get together and come closer to the Lord through singing and praising. The Girl's Ministry leads girls to become women of God which includes evangelism, prayer meetings, and a counselor available around the clock. The men's home welcomes young men who chose to leave the life of gangs and drugs, or home situations and who are serious about a relationship with Jesus. A gang intervention and drug abuse program is offered as well that includes street evangelism to drug dealers, drug addicts and gang members along with prayer meetings and awareness seminars in high schools. SOS ministries has a volunteer staff working around the clock serving the community to bring the word of God to those who need it most. For more information on this great cause call 979-775-5357.
