Jesus is taking back our cities.

THANKS BRAZOS VALLEY FOR HELPING US TO FULFILL OUR MISSION OF TAKING THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST TO THE STREETS OF BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION AND BEYOND.

Through the efforts of the Jericho teams in "Walk A Mile In His Steps" and for all who attended our banquet with Nicky Cruz, we were able to raise $99,623.21. Cash and checks were $67,783.21, pledges were $31,840, expenses were $13,054.79, and net income was $86,568.42. This will enable the Ministry to rescue many troubled youth from abusive home situations, gang involvement, drug abuse, and violence. As God works in their hearts, He gives them a hope and a future and changes their Eternal destiny! Although it is not possible to list everyone who gave, may God bless everyone who had a part in the Jericho teams and who attended the banquet.

God has greatly blessed our Ministry through the "Walk A Mile In His Steps" walk and banquet. However, our monthly needs are $18,388. Therefore, the monthly donations of any amount are essential for the ongoing work of saving our streets. We are so grateful for all contributions, both large and small. May God bless you.

In His name,
J. J. Ramirez

Children's Ministry

Howdy! My name is Meredith Jones and I am so excited that God has called me to be the new Children's Ministry Director here at SOS. I came to the Bryan/College Station area in the fall of 2001 as a student at Texas A & M, little did I know that an education was just a small part of what God had in store. Knowing that God has called me to work in the inner city, I anxiously waited to see what doors God would open. I learned about SOS shortly after my arrival in the area, and began praying for the ministry, although I knew little about the extent of it's history, staff, or purpose. My first real experience with SOS was the Freedom Fest and there God began to stir something in my heart. The following Spring I volunteered in the office and was able to get an "inside look" at what the ministry does.

It was then I realized God was calling me to work with SOS on a long-term basis. After returning to the area for school last fall I began volunteering on Thursday nights with the children's ministry. Little by little, their precious faces became engraved on my soul.

At Christmas time, the need arose for a new Children's Ministry Director and J.J. approached me about possibly taking the position. God quickly confirmed that was His will, and my family, who's also head of an inner-city ministry, gave me their support. This semester has been quite challenging. We have many new volunteers working on Thursday nights, and they too are passionate about winning the lost. Our numbers have risen tremendously: we now average close to 100 children, ages 4-12 weekly.

This summer we took "SOS On Location" to the 4 major neighborhoods that our buses visit weekly. We partnered with area churches and ministries to take the Gospel to the streets. Training for the teams that were in the neighborhoods began in June and we were "on location" 5 consecutive Thursdays through mid August. "SOS On Location" concluded with giving parents of every child, in each neighborhood a potted plant with a scripture in it. Our purpose was to reach not only the children, but their families as well. Preparations for this fall have already been made, and we are looking forward to see how God will continue to provide as the ministry expands. God has given us an incredible opportunity to intervene in the coarse of these valuable lives. They are currently heading down a path of hurt, destruction and death. The only answer is Jesus; He alone can offer them a life truly worth living. The battle lines are drawn on every side, and my admonishment to our volunteers is found in 2 Samuel 10:12, "Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in His sight." These children have a future that is worth fighting for, however our fight is not with flesh and blood; the battle is fought on our knees, before a God that is in love with these kids, and who desires that none should perish. I encourage you to pray for the children of our city; their need is great, but our God is greater.

"And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me." Matthew 10:38-40

You never know just how far the Lord can take you until you come to a place where you place your back against the wall of God, stare your problems in the face, and say " I'm not moving Lord until you give me the victory over this stuff in my life.

When I got here in May of last year, I was a four hundred pound emotional wreck. I had a hard time dealing with my emotions and feelings toward myself. I had come to the place in my life where ministry was something I wanted nothing more to do with. Even though I came here seeking help for these things, I didn't realize that there were some core issues that I had to deal with first. I had to deal with the spiritual stuff behind the physical signs. Through SOS Ministries Men's Home, God tore apart every emotional crutch I had set up to protect me from letting people in; I realized that there were many rips in my spiritual foundation due to one thing...failure.

I realized that the things that I was dealing with were things that I put on myself in most cases. When I had tried to lose weight in the past, tried to budget my funds, deal with relationships with others, and other things I felt that I could never succeed. I have always had a fighter's mentality about life but I tended to put on my own gloves and gear to fight "my" battles. Even as a Christian, I felt like God gave me so much but I had to take the battle into my own hands. It took some time to learn that it's His Cross, His righteousness and His fight. I still have a fighter's mentality, but I rely on the One who has given me the victory over this life He gave me for His Glory. As I write this, I'm 320 lbs. When I got here I weighed 420 lbs. Instead of being simply a client that graduated and left, I stayed on as a member of the Young Men's Home Staff as the House Monitor. I have the opportunity to share how Christ can deliver from emotional damage, poor self-image, and failure, with the young men at the home. I'll continue to work in the Children's Ministry, both Thursday and Friday nights. I'll also be involved with doing whatever SOS Ministries feels lead to do to reach the Bryan/College Station area. As I close, I would like to thank the staff of SOS Ministries and those involved in the ministry for letting me learn from my mistakes and teaching me that failure is not the end of things. I realize now that failure is proof that you keep trying instead of giving up. I covet your prayers as I continue to seek ways to purposely encourage greatness in each one of these young men's lives as they each have in mine.
